The distinction that catches most site owners: lab data and field data disagree. Lab data is a Lighthouse simulation run on demand from a fast machine. Field data is what real Chrome users experienced, aggregated over the trailing 28 days Google collects, and field data is what Google grades on. Fair Questions Before You Hire a Technical SEO Company

My developer says the site is fine. Why would I pay for this?

Your developer is probably right by the standard they are using.
