On-Page SEO Checklist

The working checklist our team runs on client pages, published in full: nothing gated, nothing held back for the paid version.

This on-page SEO checklist covers the 48 checks Egochi runs before and after a page ships: keyword and intent, title tag, meta description, headers, content, internal links, images, URL, and schema markup. Work through it one page at a time, tick what passes, and fix what does not. No email gate, no PDF ransom: print it or keep it open in a tab.

What does an on-page SEO checklist include?

A complete on-page SEO checklist covers nine areas: keyword and intent selection, the title tag, the meta description, header structure, the content itself, internal links, images, the URL, and schema markup. This one holds 48 checks across those groups, ordered the way we run them, because a page aimed at the wrong keyword fails everything after it.

How to Use This Checklist

  • Run it per page, not per site: on-page SEO is a page-level discipline, and averaging across a site hides the failures.
  • Order matters: the keyword and intent checks come first because a page aimed at the wrong term fails every check after it, no matter how well.
  • Use it twice: before publishing anything new, and on your money pages whenever rankings stall or clicks lag behind impressions.

Keyword and Intent

Before writing or fixing anything. A page aimed at the wrong keyword fails every later check invisibly, which is why our own engagements start with keyword research and mapping.

Title Tag

The strongest single on-page signal, and the element most sites get wrong by not measuring.

Meta Description

Not a ranking factor; a click-through factor. Write it like the ad it is.

Header Tags

Headers are the outline Google reads before the paragraphs.

Content

The element everything else exists to support.

Internal Links

The one authority source you fully control.

Images

Accessibility, speed, and image search in one pass.

URL

Boring on purpose: a URL should still make sense in five years.

Schema Markup

Structured data must describe what the page visibly says, never more.

How often should you run an on-page SEO checklist?

Run the full list before any new page publishes, then quarterly on the pages that earn money. Between passes, rerun it whenever a ranking drops, clicks lag behind impressions, or a competitor rewrites the page above yours. Structural checks like URLs and schema rarely change; titles and content drift out of date as the SERP moves around them.

What This Checklist Will Not Fix

A page can pass all 48 checks and still not rank, and it would be dishonest to publish this list without saying when.

  • If Google cannot crawl, render, or index the page, no on-page element matters: redirect chains, blocked resources, and indexation problems are technical SEO work, and they get fixed first.
  • If every page-one competitor has far more authority than your domain, a perfect page stalls on page two: that gap closes through link building and time, not another title revision.
  • If two of your pages target the same keyword, fixing both is fixing neither: resolve the collision first, then run the checklist on the surviving page.

What is the most important check on the list?

The first one: exactly one page on your site targets this keyword. Cannibalization quietly fails pages that pass every other check, because two of your URLs split the clicks and links one page deserves. After that, the title length and front-loading checks pay fastest, since the text in the search result changes as soon as Google reindexes.

Who This Checklist Is For

  • You write or edit your own pages and want the checks an agency would run, in order, without buying the agency.
  • You manage an in-house marketer or a freelancer and want a shared standard for what a finished page means.
  • Your pages rank on page two and you want a systematic pass before deciding whether to bring in help.

When this may not be the right fit: if your site has deeper problems than page elements, indexation failures, a large authority gap, or pages competing with each other, the checklist will grade the paint on a house with foundation trouble. The honest move is an audit first; the checklist then keeps the fixed pages fixed.
